Idoia Murga Castro (History of Art, PhD, 2011) is a Tenured Researcher at CSIC (Spanish National Research Council). Between 2012 and 2018 she was Assistant Professor at Universidad Complutense de Madrid. She was awarded European Doctor Mention and Outstanding PhD Award in Art History for best thesis of the year. She was a PhD student at CSIC thanks to the FPU PhD Fellowship from the Ministry of Education. She has been a Visiting Scholar at Columbia University (New York), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, Universidad de Buenos Aires, Institut National d’Histoire de l’Art (CNRS-Paris IV Sorbonne) and PhD Occasional Student at The Courtauld Institute of Art. She was an intern at both the Peggy Guggenheim Collection (Solomon R. Guggenheim Foundation Internship) and Musée d’Orsay, and between 2011 and 2012, she worked as Exhibition Coordinator at Fundación Mapfre in Madrid. She has a degree in Classical Dance from the Royal Academy of Dance and the Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing.

She has been the curator at the exhibition Poetas del cuerpo. La danza de la Edad de Plata, as well as the artistic assistant at Mujeres en Vanguardia. La Residencia de Señoritas en su centenario (1915-1936), both at the Residencia de Estudiantes, Madrid, in collaboration with Acción Cultural Española; and a scientific assistant at 1939 Exilio republicano español, by the Ministry of Justice. She coordinated exhibitions such as L’Espagne entre deux siècles. De Zuloaga à Picasso (Musée de l’Orangerie/Musée d’Orsay/F. Mapfre, 2011), Odilon Redon (F. Mapfre/Musée d’Orsay, 2012) and Retratos. Obras maestras. Centre Pompidou (Centre Pompidou/F. Mapfre, 2012).

Besides having been member of various R&D&I projects obtained in competitive public calls, currently she is Principal Researcher of the R&D&I projects entitled: Ballets Espagnols (1927-1929): A Dance Company for the Internationalization of Modern Art (P. E. I+D+I Acciones de Dinamización "Europa Excelencia", funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and University/Agencia Estatal de Investigación, ref. ERC2018-092829), Following the Sylph's Steps: A History of Dance in Spain, 1836-1936 (MCIU/AEI/FEDER,UE, ref. PGC2018-093710-A-I00) and The Paint Brush, the Pencil and the Needle: Women Artists in the Avant-garde (PII, CSIC, ref. 201810I093).

She is a founding member of the Seminario Complutense de Investigación en Historia y Teoría de la Danza, and a member of the International Dance Council-UNESCO, the Dance Studies Association, the ICOM and other organizations.

Her main research lines are the relationship between dance and visual arts, Spanish art and politics, and women’s artistic activity in Spanish arts at the beginning of the 20th century.
