Catalin Covaci holds a degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from the Universidad Politécnica de Madrid. He worked for two years in the private sector as a programmer before joining the WHEP (Who Has Eaten the Planet) project, where he complements the research team with his technical programming expertise.
Since his final years of university, he has shown a great interest in theoretical computer science, focusing on algorithms, data structures, complexity, discrete mathematics, and problem-solving. He has won several competitive programming contests, such as the 2022 National AdaByron. After completing his academic stage, he has continued to collaborate voluntarily as a judge and/or problemsetter in contests such as AdaByron and the Spain Olympiad in Informatics.
He is currently trying to rediscover his passion for pure mathematics and is studying for a Master's degree in Advanced Mathematics at the Universidad Complutense de Madrid. He is also exploring a new passion for writing by creating an educational blog, where he intends to share his interests in topics as diverse as the role of sound in Chinese characters or the non-existence of a general formula for solving quintic equations (a more accessible summary of his Bachelor's Thesis, currently under construction). He also enjoys movies, and rarely goes a week without paying a visit to the cinema. He created a simple site featuring movie screenings in Madrid, born out of his own need to find hidden gems spread across the city's various theaters.
